Introducing Zea

Zea Miller is our new Administrative Manager! Originally from Marion, IN, she is attending Asbury Theological Seminary in the Masters of Divinity program. Zea is engaged to the brother of former staff member Kaleb Shipman! Brette Elliott, our former Administrative Assistant, is getting married to Kaleb this spring which means Zea and Brette will be sisters-in-law!

Zea has done a fantastic job diving right into the role of Administrative Assistant in managing our finances, especially amidst the end of a fiscal year. She has already helped us apply for another round of the Paycheck Protection Program which will be a huge financial relief to our ministry due to the challenges of the pandemic. She has also kept busy assisting in other aspects of the job and is adjusting well.

Zea enjoys developing relationships with people and hearing about how God has worked in their lives. “I love working in ministry because I feel like I am always encouraged and challenged when I am able to experience how God is working and know more of who He is by being in relationship with other people.” Some fun facts about Zea are that her name is the scientific name for corn, she played soccer in college and enjoys hiking, hammocking, and drinking kombucha, and she can speak (some) Mandarin Chinese! Welcome Zea, we are so excited to have you join our team!

Camp Improvements and New Programs

This month we have also applied for grants with the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels and the Old National Bank Foundation. If approved, we will take the next step in remodeling King Hall and receive funds to invest in our new Community Serve program!

Due to past grants and supporters, we have been able to improve our camp property. Recently, we have leveraged this support with repairs in King Hall. We have installed an HVAC system, created our Great Room meeting space, and replaced all windows and entryways. Our next goal is to renovate the shower bathrooms! With better facilities, we have hosted individual guests this winter, offering them affordable lodging and gaining some rental income. We also have a few small groups meeting weekly on camp while following health guidelines such as a ARROW, a substance abuse recovery ministry.

Our Community Serve program is a local service option for one-day projects. This program has provided an outlet for local volunteers to serve with us and minister to individuals in our county who are experiencing poverty or limiting circumstances. The factors of the pandemic make matters even more difficult for these residents. Therefore, we are seeking funds and sponsorships to support this initiative to serve community members with one project a month. If you or your church group, friends, coworkers, or family are interested in serving with us one Saturday, click the link below!
